Founded in 1975, The Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine (SAM) has been serving the interests of Maine’s outdoor community for nearly half a century. At its core, SAM believes in Leadership, Integrity and Fairness.
With over 8,000 members and partnerships with 70 Fish & Game clubs statewide, SAM has become the voice of sportsmen & women across the state.
We believe in the right to defend and protect the right of law-abiding individuals to keep, use and bear arms. We believe in preserving the American and Maine heritage of hunting, fishing, and trapping. We work to educate the public concerning wildlife conservation and management, field sports, and related programs. We do this by utilizing hands on training & experience, literature, television, radio, print and social media.
Over the years, SAM has established a proven reputation to build coalitions across party lines to make policy, to initiate legislation and lead referendums that benefit all aspects of the outdoor community. In turn, this has positioned SAM to become the only state-wide organization that has a proven success record of implementing appropriate and positive legislation, on both a state and federal level. SAM has been leading the way interacting with the legislature, state agencies, local communities, sportsman groups and others to enhance and preserve Maine’s outdoor heritage.
